SENUFO MUD CLOTH

Vintage mud cloth with Senufo warriors from the village of Korhogo in Northern Ivory Coast. The artistic Senufo people are known for their handcrafts of cultural, ancestral and spiritual themes vs. repetitive patterns. The Senufo believe in the Supreme Being, who is viewed as a dual male-female being and creator.

The art of the Senufo people influenced artists throughout decades, especially those of the 20th century like Pablo Picasso and his African period.

Strips of handspun and handwoven cotton are sewn together and dyed with brown fermented mud.

One of a kind with unique hues and paint variations. The art panel can be used as a bed spread, sofa throw, wallhanging or framed piece of art.
